Released this Friday (November 1st) and accompanied by a video shot at the stunning Piece Hall, Falling marks the return of Leeds’ mighty Apollo Junction - and it’s not a moment too soon.
With a hometown headliner booked in for next April and some killer support slots announced of late, it’s easy to think the band are just drifting along waiting for an email from Blossoms to casually drop into their inbox. In reality, times are tougher than that and the past 12 months haven’t been plain sailing by the sound of it. The lyrics to this new release give a hint to private turmoil, amidst the soaring melodies and crashing drumbeats. It’s not all doom and gloom, though - all the hallmarks of an AJ classic are right there, from the swirling guitars to a hands-in-the-air chorus. It’s a nod to a ‘stormy patch’ followed by sticking a middle finger up at it. A playfight between your favourite ‘80s synth track and an early ‘00s indie banger. Think of it however you will, just listen to it, loudly. Then listen to it again.
Looking ahead, there are a few dates with American band Switchfoot and a support slot for Blossoms next summer. Maybe if we wish hard enough, there’ll be a few more dates added to make that Leeds headline into a tour….
Welcome back, lads. We haven’t half missed you.
